Although there may be many ways to approach simulator training, I will discuss the approach I use and why. This approach may have to be adapted depending on the schedules and availability of the operators to train. Because of this, some preparation is recommended to make the best use of the simulator training time.

The first step is to have the operators read the manuals and procedures, as mentioned in the first ProseraPod. They can then review the graphics at the actual console with a qualified panel operator to become familiar with navigating the graphics and understanding the basic control loops. This can then be followed up with how to complete a “Round” on the panel and check all the variables to ensure they are within normal parameters. This can be completed on the simulator as well if there is availability. This is a good start to be able to benefit from simulator training and to be able to absorb the first lessons.

A simulator training program consists of preparatory work and hands-on experience, where board operators practice key routines such as startup, emergency procedures, and handling malfunctions or failures. These will be covered in future ProseraPods.
